Bowling for Big Brothers Event 2013

For the last 5 years I have Co-Captained Ocean Trailer’s annual “Bowl For Big Brothers Event”. Having our staff participate in this event has shown me the importance of bringing together your fellow co-workers in a social atmosphere outside the office.

When our staff joins together for this worthwhile endeavor, the manager/employee roles fade and we become a group of caring individuals who are working towards a common goal. This encourages a friendly competitiveness to emerge amongst everyone involved.  When our employees share and relate to one another in this way it establishes comradely. Having positive employee relationships help to add value to our workplace environment.

I would like see Ocean Trailer continue to enjoy this event in years to come and I welcome the opportunity to be involved. - Jackie Grant, Ocean Trailer”

The premier sponsors of the Annual Sunshine for Kids Golf Tournament

As one of the premier sponsors of the Annual Sunshine for Kids Golf Tournament, Sid & Leigh Keay and the Ocean Trailer team got together to help raise over $150,000 for the Disneyland Dreamlift.  The DreamLift is an amazing, well-deserved escape for a plane full of special children who will spend an exciting day in Disneyland!  It is a rare experience where they will be able to temporarily leave their daily struggles, challenges, and pain behind.

Casey Wright (center) of Maple Ridge did an exceptional job as guest M/C and Auctioneer. Congratulations to Casey on being this years first confirmed participant of the Vancouver DreamLift to Disney Land.

Ride to Conquer Cancer 2012

As most of you are aware the ride was last weekend in Vancouver and it was a huge success. Overall there was 11.2 Million Dollars raised, our team raised $125,494.50 and thanks to all of your generosity I was able to collect $27,905.00! The weather was a typical BC/Washington spring day but that didn’t stop anyone from pedaling all the way to Seattle. It is hard to express my thanks to all of you for what you have done to help Conquer Cancer but to say thanks it is appreciated and all the money will be going to a great cause. I have included a couple of pictures the first is the Pokodot Shirt given to me by the Ride organizers because of all of you donating to the cure and the second is of my 7 fellow Hockey Dad’s that came from Calgary for the adventure of a life time. The balance of our team were made up from as far away as Houston Texas, Dartmouth Nova Scotia, Collingwood Ontario and of course Vancouver. I will send a full team photo once I get one. Once again Thank You!

Mission PossiblE Feb 2012

Mission Possible is located down town, a place that transforms lives by helping those challenged by homelessness and poverty achieve a renewed sense of dignity and purpose through meaningful work. Early this year we put together a group of people that were willing to volunteer their time to feeding the people that are less fortunate. On a Saturday morning we will feed 100 people a warm hot breakfast. It has been a great opportunity to put smiles on peoples faces. We are also doing other things at Mission Possible by helping them get new chairs, clothing and Food to keep this great facility working.

Thanks to everyone who helped make this special event such a success and once again thank you to everyone who donated to this charity.

Developmental Disabilities Foundations – Richmond, British Columbia

When I saw the posters to design an Ocean Trailer chair and donate it to the Developmental Disabilities Foundations chair auction, many ideas and reasons began to go through my mind.  To participate in a fundraiser that would help make a difference in someone’s life and to show my support for Sid, Mike & Ocean Trailer.

My sister Helen, her husband Steve and I designed and hand painted the chair. As the different stages of painting and detailing were done our ideas turned out a lot better than we thought.

When Sid saw the chair he challenged all the branches to try & out bid him for the chance to have the chair displayed at their branch. Each branch was assigned an attending bidder and the bidding war was on. The employees combined raised $3260.00. (Calgary - $1000.00, Coquitlam - $870.00, Edmonton - $800.00, Delta - $300.00, Winnipeg - $290.00). Sid & Mike matched the employee donations to bring the total to $6520.00.

The auction was attended by Sid, Julie, Helen, Vicki, John & Sherry. When the bidding began Sid had a little competition (arranged by him) for the chair.  The crowd could not believe that the chair was going for so much money.  It was exciting to listen to the crowd’s comments as they gathered around to watch the bidding war between Sid and the other bidder.
At the end of the evening Sid was called to the podium and he explained why the chair went for so much money and that I had 4 more chairs to make, plus 1 for Duncanby. Thank you to the Ocean Team for your generous donations. Fun was had by all.
