Community Involvement

Our CommunitiesAt Ocean Trailer, we are committed to building a corporate culture of giving, sharing and making a positive difference in the communities we live in.  Our Corporate contributions are dedicated to youth, medical research and education. We have contributed on many levels to many charities and functions, from trips, to gifts, and cash donations Ocean Trailer has been there for many worth while causes beyond those that are listed below.

Cystic Fibrosis tournament 2007 – Langley, British Columbia

May 10th, 2007 saw the annual Cystic Fibrosis tournament take place at Newlands Golf and Country Club in Langley, BC. As usual, the turn out was great and we were sold out once again. It always amazes us the outpour of support we get from our vendors and customers on this great cause, and this year was no different. The weather was fantastic and $150,000 was raised. Thanks to everyone who helped make this special event such a success and once again thank you to everyone who donated to this charity.

Developmental Disabilities Foundations – Richmond, British Columbia

When I saw the posters to design an Ocean Trailer chair and donate it to the Developmental Disabilities Foundations chair auction, many ideas and reasons began to go through my mind.  To participate in a fundraiser that would help make a difference in someone’s life and to show my support for Sid, Mike & Ocean Trailer.

My sister Helen, her husband Steve and I designed and hand painted the chair. As the different stages of painting and detailing were done our ideas turned out a lot better than we thought.

When Sid saw the chair he challenged all the branches to try & out bid him for the chance to have the chair displayed at their branch. Each branch was assigned an attending bidder and the bidding war was on. The employees combined raised $3260.00. (Calgary - $1000.00, Coquitlam - $870.00, Edmonton - $800.00, Delta - $300.00, Winnipeg - $290.00). Sid & Mike matched the employee donations to bring the total to $6520.00.

The auction was attended by Sid, Julie, Helen, Vicki, John & Sherry. When the bidding began Sid had a little competition (arranged by him) for the chair.  The crowd could not believe that the chair was going for so much money.  It was exciting to listen to the crowd’s comments as they gathered around to watch the bidding war between Sid and the other bidder.  At the end of the evening Sid was called to the podium and he explained why the chair went for so much money and that I had 4 more chairs to make, plus 1 for Duncanby. Thank you to the Ocean Team for your generous donations. Fun was had by all.

Brooklands Elementary School – Winnipeg, Manitoba

Due to the schools proximity to the city and the fact that students live in the out lying areas around the school, field trips to the City of Winnipeg where the majority of the cultural and arts events run, are not always an option for Brooklands Elementary School.  Ocean Trailer has provided a financial donation to the school to make this trip a reality for the students.  During the 2006/2007 school year each student will have an excursion to the city to attend to a local event that will provide cultural enrichment and experiences that they would not normally have had. We are excited to bring the students to the arts, but even more exciting, is the donation provides enough funds to allow for a concert on site at the school by a local noted singer-songwriter.

Big Brothers of Greater Vancouver – In School Mentoring Program – Coquitlam, Surrey, Delta

Ocean Trailer believes in reaching out to help support those programs which focus on the ongoing development of our youth.  Staff and management of Ocean Trailer are pleased to support the Big Brothers of Greater Vancouver In-School Mentoring Program, with a $5000 donation. The In School Mentoring program matches up boys and girls in grades 1-6 with an adult mentor, they meet for 1 hour a week at the child’s school to play games, play sports, do arts and crafts or just hang out and talk.  We hope that this contribution will allow children in our community to continue to grow and focus on the positives of life, school, family and friends.

St. Cecilia Junior High School – Edmonton, Alberta

Located in North Edmonton, the school is approximately 40 years old with over 675 students.  St. Cecilia mission this year was to bring the arts to the students. In years past they have mandated physical education for the children to ensure the continued focus on wellness. Now that the wellness program is up and running, this year St. Cecilia decided to focus on bringing the Arts to the youth.  The school timetable was revised to include mandatory music for all grade 7 students.  Our donation of $5000 will assist St. Cecilia in purchasing new instruments and sheet music for the youth, so they can experience the power that music can bring to their lives.  This is a tangible and long lasting contribution, as the impact on the youth will go well beyond this years grade 7 class.

Special Olympics – Calgary, Alberta

In keeping in line with our corporate value of engaging the hearts and minds of our community youth, Ocean Trailer was pleased to donate $5000 to the Special Olympics – Calgary. This donation will allow them to continue to deliver high-quality sports programs to people with disabilities.  Organizations like the Special Olympics rely on funding from corporations and individuals alike.

Cystic Fibrosis Foundation of British Columbia

For a number of years running, Ocean Trailer has been a key contributor to the fundraising efforts of the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation of BC.  A small group of company volunteers, along with sponsors and friends have raised over $1.2 million for the foundation. 2007 will mark the 15th year Ocean Trailer has been involved with the fundraising efforts for the CF Society. Ocean Trailer is pleased to be involved in such a worth while cause, to raise public awareness and funds for further research.

Camp Cedarwood –  Winnipeg, Manitoba

When Ocean Trailer found out that Camp Cedarwood, located in Winnipeg, Manitoba, was trying to raise funds to ensure the water treatment system was stable enough to withstand a ‘boil water advisory’, we jumped at the opportunity to help. Ocean Trailer donated $5000 towards the fundraising efforts.  Camp Cedarwood is a beautiful year round camp, which offers camping for junior and senior high school teenagers.

At this year’s corporate appreciation breakfast, Jobs West was pleased to acknowledge Ocean Trailer as the Jobs West Employer of the Year. >>
